Leadership

From the videos, I have watched and articles I have read, Bob Iger seems to be a very friendly person who cares about his employees and contractors. He cares about the fans of Disney and those that make Disney’s products and he values the opinions that they have. He was also one of the last two people appointed as an Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen in September of 2022, this was due to his services to the US/UK relations. When Bob Iger took over as CEO, Disney was not in a good place, now through Bob Iger's first 15 years of leadership Disney is the top media company.

Bob Iger values leadership and values all employees' contributions and what they bring to the company. Iger's major leadership advice is to create a supportive environment for all employees where they feel comfortable working and where they can provide their best work.

Iger values 10 top characteristics and principles to have as a leader. He values optimism, focus, courage, decisiveness, curiosity, fairness, thoughtfulness, integrity, authenticity, and the pursuit of perfection in work. These characteristics and principles have led Disney too many of its successes under Iger's leadership. These strategies were used when creating Disney+ which was a large time and money commitment that the company had to stick with, even though a while of it not being profitable until the expected 2024.

When Bob Iger and Disney took over the many film studios that they had acquired throughout the 15 years of his leadership he had learned a lot of things. The biggest thing is that buying the film companies is not about the money or the studio itself, but it's about the people. In his book, he says that building trust with the controlling entities and the people that are a part of the company is the most important thing in buying out these companies.

Now Bob Iger, aside from being CEO of Disney, is that Iger is investing in smaller companies that are very innovative. One company he believes in is Canva with how they are evolving the slide deck experience into a web 3.0 environment.

The most important leadership advice that Bob Iger gives in his 2022 Code Interview with Kara Swishers, which will be in the second book that he is currently working on, is that leadership requires a lot of empathy and a lot of courage. As a leader, you have to put yourself in other people's shoes and understand what they are feeling. He also says that you have to be very decisive and be making those decisions quickly and confidently. The decisions have to balance optimism and realism.

These all show how Bob Iger was a great leader and how he was successful in running the Walt Disney Company and made them into the biggest media conglomerate in the world.
